Valentine's Day originated in Rome as a tribute to St. Valentine who was the Catholic Bishop in 5th Century Rome.
In February of every year, the Romans would allow men to draw the names of teenage girls in the same way that numbers are drawn in a lottery. Whatever young lady's name the men would draw would be his sex companion for the year, or until the next drawing. This was a rite of passage for the young men to the god Lupercus.
Emperor Claudius did not think that married men would make good soldiers so he banned marriage all together. This is when Valentine stepped in!
Valentine would secretly marry young couples that came to him in love. Claudius did not like this and sentenced Valentine to jail and eventually death by beheading. While in jail, Valentine fell in love with the jailer's daughter who was blind. It is said that Valentine's love for the girl healed her blindness.
The next time someone tells you that love is blind stop them. Tell them that their views of love may leave them with shades over their eyes in an attempt to protect their heart. When you love someone openly and freely your eyes are opened to a variety of things. Tell your Valentine today that you love them but know in your heart and soul that you truly do. And don't let anyone elses views on love affect your Valentine's Day. Today nor in the Valentine's Days to come!!
HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!!!
